luke hofkamp obituary: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Luke Hofkamp, aged 90, on March 31, 2018. Luke, born Ellen Jean Hoel on November 30, 1927, in Forbes, North Dakota, was the beloved daughter of Arnold and Gertrude (Wright) Hoel. She embarked on her nursing journey at the Glenwood Hills Psychiatric School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after graduating from high school in Lake Benton, Minnesota. On January 19, 1947, she exchanged vows with her best friend and dance partner, Russell Anderson, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau.
Following their joyous wedding and a honeymoon in New Orleans, Luke Hofkamp and Russell settled on the Anderson family farm west of Flandreau. In the city, Jean dedicated herself to medical and dental work, serving with Dr. Peter Stahl D.C. until her retirement. She was a devoted member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, actively participating in WELCA and teaching at Sunday school.

Luke Hofkamp was a cherished member of the community, affiliating with the Order of the Eastern Star for six decades, as well as being a part of the Clare Extension Club and the Flandreau Jaycettes, where she served as the charter president. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Luke is survived by her loving children, Nancy Jo Anderson of Ankeny, Iowa, Gordy R. Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Karla Rae Hofkamp of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Eric A. Anderson (fiancé Kimberly Lang) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was a devoted grandmother to Maren Anderson-Lenhart, Marisa Anderson, Charia Anderson, Lindsey (David) Eisenbraun, and Alleise Anderson. Luke was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Gertrude Hoel, her husband Russell, and their infant daughter, Cheryl Jeanine.
Luke Hofkamp’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of those who came before her.
