Background

Bellator MMA hosted its 298th event, Bellator 298 results: Storley vs. Ward, on August 11, 2023 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This marked Bellator’s fourth visit to Sioux Falls and first since Bellator 284 in August 2022.

The event was headlined by a welterweight bout between former interim champion Logan Storley and veteran contender Brennan Ward. The co-main event featured a heavyweight rematch between former interim champ Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry.

Main Event: Storley vs. Ward

The main event featured two of Bellator’s top welterweights, as former interim champion Logan Storley took on knockout artist Brennan Ward.

Logan Storley

Storley entered with an impressive 13-1 record, having won 7 straight bouts. His lone career loss came against current champ Yaroslav Amosov in 2020. Since then, Storley captured the interim title with a win over Michael Page last year. However, he was subsequently stripped of the belt. A win over Ward could earn Storley another title shot.

Brennan Ward

Ward held a 15-6 record coming into Bellator 298, with 11 of those wins coming via KO/TKO. Despite some setbacks in recent years, Ward remains one of Bellator’s most dangerous 170-pound fighters. With his aggressive style and fight-ending power, he posed a major threat to Storley.

This compelling stylistic matchup promised fireworks between two fighters aiming to get back into title contention.

Co-Main Event: Moldavsky vs. Mowry 2

The co-main event featured a heavyweight rematch between Valentin Moldavsky and Steve Mowry. They first fought last August at Bellator 284, but the bout ended in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke.

Valentin Moldavsky

Moldavsky entered with a 11-2 record, having captured the interim heavyweight belt in 2021. However, he lost the title to current champ Ryan Bader earlier this year. Moldavsky looked to get back on track and earn another crack at Bader with a win over Mowry.

Steve Mowry

Mowry brought an undefeated 9-0 record into Bellator 298. At 6’8″, the former collegiate wrestler used his size and grappling skills to control opponents. Mowry aimed to hand Moldavsky his third straight defeat while continuing his rise up the heavyweight ranks.

This intriguing rematch looked to produce a clear winner this time around.

Other Key Bouts

In addition to the top two fights, Bellator 298 featured a number of other notable matchups:

  • Bantamweights James Gallagher vs. James Gonzalez
  • Middleweights Aaron Jeffery vs. Dalton Rosta
  • Flyweights Justine Kish vs. Diana Avsaragova

Both Gallagher and Jeffery entered as sizable favorites on the main card. Meanwhile, Kish and Avsaragova squared off in a competitive flyweight affair on the undercard.
