The Scott County, Indiana community is mourning the loss of Devonnia Tscheulin Scott County EMS and deputy director who passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Devonnia was the beloved wife of Monroe Township Fire Department Major Michael Tscheulin and sister of Impact Rescue Salem Speedway Safety Team Director Jonathan Sears. She was known for always putting others before herself.
Devonnia’s Dedication to Helping Others
Devonnia was not only an incredible paramedic but a friend to many in Scott County. She was devoted to helping others through her work in emergency services. Our prayers go out to her husband Michael and their three children, as well as her other family members and the Scott County EMS family.
Devonnia was involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier this week, after which she was pronounced dead at Ascension St. Vincent. The Scott County EMS Safety Team shared the sad news of her passing on Tuesday evening, calling her the foundation who held the service together and their biggest unsung hero.

Her brother Jonathan Sears penned a touching tribute about the profound impact Devonnia made on his life:
“Tonight, I lost one of the most important people in my life. We as a service lost our foundation. The one who held everything together. The biggest unsung hero of Scott County EMS. You have been my right hand, my right leg, and my right brain for the last 4+ years. You’ve been the one alongside me the entire way. I am forever indebted. You were my support. You are the one person who stood by me every step of the way. You believed in everything we did. We love you. Heaven gained an unbelievable angel tonight.”
Fellow paramedic Ryan Rainey also shared fond memories of Devonnia’s kindness:
“I haven’t known her as long as others have but she left an unforgettable impact on my life. Few people come into your life and leave such an incredible impression on a person but she did. She never failed to ask me how my family and I were doing each time she saw me. She always put others ahead of herself. She was more than just an incredible paramedic to me she was a friend. I will never forget the kindness Devonnia Tscheulin showed myself and my family in recent years. My heart is truly broken tonight, and my thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and coworkers.”
