John Merz Obituary:The community is mourning the loss of John Glenn Merz of Tullahoma, TN, who passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2023 at the young age of 33. Though his time with loved ones was tragically cut short, John lived his 33 years to the fullest through his passions, friends, and most of all, his two beloved sons.

John Merz Obituary: Early Life and Family

John Merz was born on June 29, 1990 in Tullahoma to parents Dan and Martha Merz. He graduated Tullahoma High School in 2008, where he played golf all four years.

Tight Family Bonds

John had close relationships with parents Dan and Martha, brother Seth, sons Colton and Hunter, and the extended Merz family. Time together brought him joy.

Hometown Roots

John grew up immersed in the Tullahoma community, attending First Methodist Church and making lifelong local friendships from a young age.

Finding His Way

As an adult, John lived in Alabama and Florida, eventually settling in Deland, FL. Though he moved around, Tullahoma always remained his home.

Passions and Pursuits

John pursued his interests fully, especially sports and spending time with friends. He approached life with enthusiasm and a zest for fun.

Avid Golfer

Golf was John’s lifelong passion, playing on the Tullahoma High team and continuing recreationally. His love for the sport ran deep.

Outdoorsman

John felt most at home in nature and enjoyed landscape work and outdoor activities like grilling, camping, and zoo trips with his boys.

Cherished Friendships

John cultivated special connections everywhere he went. Nothing made him happier than sharing good times with friends.

Beloved Father

Above all else, John cherished his role as a devoted father to sons Colton and Hunter. They were his pride and joy.

Proud Dad

John embraced fatherhood completely. He was constantly engaged in his boys’ lives and activities.

Creating Lasting Memories

From breakfasts at Waffle House to trips to the beach, John loved adventure with Colton and Hunter, making lasting memories.

Securing Their Future

In John’s passing, loved ones find comfort knowing donations will support his sons’ education. His love remains.

Though gone far too soon at 33, John Glenn Merz lived his life remarkably through golf, friendships, family bonds, and fatherhood. He is deeply missed.

The family is holding a private celebration of life service at First Methodist Church in Tullahoma on Saturday, September 16. Later that day, there will be a public visitation at the Kilgore Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Rather than flowers, those wishing to extend their support can contribute to the future education of Colton and Hunter.
