A tragic accident has claimed the life of Chris Novecosky of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, who drowned while selflessly trying to rescue his cousin after falling through ice. The tight-knit community is reeling from the devastating loss of this universally-beloved family man and friend.
A Fatal Slip Through the Ice
On Saturday, November 4th, Chris Novecosky and his cousin ventured out onto a frozen lake near Humboldt for what was supposed to be a fun excursion. But tragedy struck when the ice broke and Novecosky’s cousin plunged into the frigid waters.
Without hesitation, Novecosky rushed to save his drowning cousin. But in the rescue effort, Novecosky lost his own footing and slipped into the lake. The intense cold prevented either man from being able to pull themselves out.
Nearby fishermen witnessed the accident and immediately called emergency responders. But it was too late – both men tragically perished. While heartbroken by his cousin’s passing, Novecosky’s family takes solace in that he died bravely trying to rescue someone he loved.
